American Reading Company
Our class participates in the 100 Book Challenge. This means your child will be reading books on their independent reading level while in school and at home. These books may seem too easy for your child however they are meant to be read independently so the student doesn't struggle with decoding. Books are so much more fun to read when you read fluently and understand the stories you're reading. Each night a home coach should sign the students' log, 1 step for every 15 minutes read. You should ask your child what their story was about so they can talk about what they've read. It is also a great learning experience for your child when you sit down and read to them or have them read to you. To learn more about the American Reading Company go to www.americanreading.com/.

Orton-Gillngham Approach
The Orton-Gillingham approach to reading is a very structured and systematic approach that uses multisensory techniques to help students struggling with reading, spelling, and writing. It is a very personalized program that can be taught to a group provided the students are at the same reading level. Each lesson is written after diagnosing problem areas from the previous lesson. By using multisensory strategies students with all different learning styles can find they can have more success with reading and spelling. It is generally a very positive experience for students who have struggled in the past. While the system is often used for students diagnosed with dyslexia, this is not its only use. Students with many learning problems find success with this approach. To read more about the Orton-Gillingham approach you can visit
